Rio Grande Tomato is a highly productive determinate variety known for its firm, oval-shaped bright red fruits with thick, meaty flesh, few seeds, and excellent heat tolerance. Fruits typically weigh 90–150 g and are ideal for fresh eating, salads, sauces, tomato paste, canning, drying, and cooking. Due to its strong tolerance to hot and dry conditions, Rio Grande is one of the best tomato varieties for the Gulf region when grown during the cooler season. It performs well in gardens, raised beds, greenhouses, containers, and hydroponic systems.

• Avoid outdoor planting when daytime temperatures consistently exceed 38–40°C.

Seed Preparation

• Although Rio Grande is a determinate variety, using short stakes or tomato cages helps support heavy fruit clusters.
