🔍 About Salvia Horminum Mix

  • Type: Hardy annual

  • Height: 18–24 inches (45–60 cm)

  • Colors: Vibrant purple, pink, white, or blue bracts (modified leaves) above small flowers

  • Use: Borders, containers, cut flowers, dried flowers

📅 1. When to Sow

  • Indoors: Start seeds 6–8 weeks before last frost date

  • Outdoors: Direct sow after last frost when soil warms

🌱 2. Sowing Indoors

  • Containers: Seed trays or small pots with drainage

  • Soil: Use well-draining seed-starting mix

  • Depth: Sow seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep

  • Water: Mist gently or bottom water to avoid displacing seeds

🌡️ 3. Germination Conditions

  • Temperature: 65–70°F (18–21°C)

  • Light: Not light-dependent for germination, but place in bright spot after sprouting

  • Time: Germinates in 7–14 days

🌿 4. After Germination

  • Remove humidity dome or plastic cover

  • Keep in bright light or under grow lights

  • Water when the top of the soil feels dry

  • Thin or transplant seedlings when they have 2–3 true leaves

🌞 5. Transplanting Outdoors

  • Timing: Transplant after the last frost, once plants are hardened off

  • Location: Full sun

  • Soil: Well-drained soil, not too rich (too much fertility can reduce color intensity)

  • Spacing: 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) apart

🌼 6. Direct Sowing Outdoors (Optional)

  • After last frost: Sow into prepared soil

  • Depth: ¼ inch deep

  • Spacing: Thin to 10–12 inches apart once established

📌 Tips

  • Deadhead spent bracts to encourage prolonged blooming.

  • Bracts are the showiest part — flowers are small and less noticeable.

  • Excellent for cut flower and dried arrangements.

  • Attracts bees and butterflies.
