How to Seed Snapdragon ‘Trumpet Serenade’ (Antirrhinum majus)
-
When to Sow: Sow indoors in early spring (January–March), 8–10 weeks before the last frost. In warm climates, can also be sown outdoors in late spring.
-
Soil: Prefers light, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.
-
Sowing: Sow seeds on the surface of the soil – do not cover, as snapdragon seeds need light to germinate. Press gently into the soil.
-
Watering: Mist or water gently to keep the soil moist but not soggy.
-
Germination: Seeds sprout in 10–21 days at 18–20 °C.
-
Transplanting: When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots. Harden off before planting outdoors, spacing 20–30 cm apart.
-
Care: Water regularly, especially in dry weather. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. Taller plants may benefit from light support.
✨ Produces charming clusters of colorful trumpet-shaped flowers, blooming continuously through summer and attracting bees and butterflies.
