Soft Pink Mallow is a charming flowering plant known for its delicate soft pink, cup-shaped blossoms and attractive green foliage. It is suitable for flower borders, cottage gardens, containers, natural gardens, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. In the Gulf region, it performs best during the cooler growing season.

Best Planting Time

  • September to January (recommended)
  • Can also be sown in February in cooler Gulf areas.

  • Mallow seeds often have a firm outer coat.
  • Optional: Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12–24 hours before sowing to improve germination.

Recommended mix:

  • 40% Sandy garden soil
  • 30% Compost or well-rotted manure

Temperature & Light

  • Ideal germination temperature: 18–22°C
  • Ideal growing temperature: 15–30°C
  • Requires 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.
  • Full morning sun encourages stronger growth and more flowers.

Watering

  • Keep soil lightly moist during germination.
  • Once established, water when the top 3–5 cm of soil becomes dry.
  • Mallow is moderately drought tolerant after establishment.

Plant Spacing

  • 30–45 cm between plants.

  • Allow some flowers to mature if natural reseeding is desired.

Fertilization

  • Add compost before planting.
  • Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, which produces foliage instead of flowers.
  • A fertilizer slightly higher in phosphorus and potassium supports better flowering.

Gulf Climate Tips

  • Grow during the cooler season for best results.
  • Use mulch around plants to conserve moisture and protect roots from heat.
  • Plant in a location with good air circulation.
