How to Seed Sweet William ‘Holborn Glory’ (Dianthus barbatus)

  1. When to Sow: Sow outdoors in late spring to early summer for flowering the following year, or start indoors earlier for transplanting.

  2. Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.

  3. Sowing: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in trays, pots, or directly in the garden. Space plants 20–25 cm apart.

  4. Watering: Water lightly and keep soil moist until germination. Avoid overwatering.

  5. Germination: Seeds sprout in 7–14 days at 16–20 °C.

  6. Transplanting: If sown indoors, transplant seedlings outdoors when large enough to handle, spacing them properly.

  7. Care: Water regularly during dry weather. Deadhead faded flowers to extend blooming, and cut back stems after flowering.

✨ Produces clusters of striking bicolored flowers in red with white edges, offering a classic, long-lasting display in beds, borders, and cut flower arrangements.
