How to Seed Torenia ‘Wishbone Flower’ Mix (Torenia fournieri F2 Hybrids)
-
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from February to April, about 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors when the weather is warm and frost-free (around May). -
Sowing Depth:
Sow seeds on the surface of moist seed compost and press lightly — do not cover, as light helps germination. -
Soil:
Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. Mix in compost or organic matter before planting. Ideal soil pH: 6.0–6.5 (slightly acidic). -
Light & Temperature:
Place in a bright, warm spot with temperatures around 20–24 °C (68–75 °F). Avoid direct harsh sunlight during germination. -
Germination Time:
Seeds usually germinate in 10–20 days under warm, humid conditions. -
Transplanting:
When seedlings are about 5–8 cm tall and have several true leaves, transplant them outdoors 15–20 cm apart. Harden off gradually before moving outside. -
Growing Tips:
-
Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.
-
Grow in partial shade to light sun — Torenia thrives in humidity and shade.
-
Feed every 2–3 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer for continuous flowering.
-
The ‘Wishbone Flower Mix’ produces vibrant shades of blue, purple, pink, yellow, and white with a unique “wishbone” pattern in the center.
-
Blooms continuously from late spring to early autumn, perfect for borders, hanging baskets, and shaded gardens.
